The Xiamen International Marathon is an annual race held in January in the coastal city of Xiamen in Fujian province. It is one of the pre-eminent marathon races of the year. The event, which began in 2003, is deemed a Gold Label Road Race by the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) and is famous for its spectacular course. The entire route follows the scenic sections of the coastal city.
More than 50,000 runners took part in the race in 2010, while in 2013 there were 73,896 competitors. In 2014 the Xiamen International Marathon took place on 2 January. About 80 thousand people attended it and the organizing committee invited nearly 40 athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia and Russia among other countries to participate. The competition was divided into full-marathon(42.195 km), half-marathon(21.0975 km), 10km and 5km races. A Kenyan athlete became the men's full-marathon champion with a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes and 6 seconds.
